JOANA AMENDOEIRA & MAR ENSEMBLE
2008
HM MÚSICA

In Portimão, in November 2007, Joana Amendoeira, Pedro Amendoeira on the Portuguese guitar, Pedro Pinhal on the fado guitar, Paulo Paz on the double bass and Filipe Raposo on the accordion met in a reflection around the repertoire of the fado singer for a concert with the Algarve Orchestra. The result was one of the most iconic shows in the history of her life.
As it would not be possible to leave blank such a memorable night, emerged the idea of create an ensemble to join the voice of Joana Amendoeira and her quartet, preparing a show with arrangements of João Godinho, which would debut at Castelo de São Jorge, in Lisbon, under the Festa do Fado, in June of 2008.
From this show came the sixth album of the fado singer, this time recorded and filmed to become a live disc with a DVD offer.
The Mar Ensemble, created specifically for this show, directed by Paulo Moreira on the cello, also features António Barbosa, on the first violin, Paula Pestana, on the second violin, Ricardo Mateus, on the viola d’arco, Maria Rosa, flute, Rui Travasso, clarinet, Carlos Alberto, on trumpet and João Carlos at the horn.
This album received the award for “Best Fado Album 2008” by Amalia Rodrigues Foundation.
